Interview by Sasha LaRochelle
Jessica is a great girl I met last year at the Action Girl Expo and the
fates have brought us together again, so I thought I'd do a little write up
on this multi sport loving super girl. Let's find out more about what makes
this sport enthusiast tick...
The Basics:
Age: 13
Grade in school: 7th grade
Hometown: San Pedro, Ca
A little background info:
"Thanks to my dad, I am hooked on racing (race cars, motocross, drags,
Harleys- anything with wheels). I've been lucky enough to have gotten to try
just about every sport I've wanted to. I play basketball and softball. I
drive go-karts. I go to church. I like to hang with the guys at my school. I
hope one day I can get a sponsor in a sport but since I like all sports, I
haven't figured out which one I like the most yet.
I also have a younger sister and brother who love sports too, so I get to
help them out. I love the ocean and am in my 3rd year as a Junior Lifeguard.
I have been bowling a little also and enjoy horseback riding, but I really
want to stick to sports with wheels!"
Hobbies:
Building model cars, listening to music, going to the movies, and watching
and reading anything about RACING!
Most memorable achievement in any area:
I got my Black Belt in Tang Soo Do when I was 10 years old.
Favorite food:
Enchiladas (anything Mexican) and I LOVE Chili Cheese fries.
Music preference:
Pop Rock (Pink, Evanesence, Nickelback, Elvis, Fefe Dobson)
Favorite film of all time:
Peter Pan
Instruments:
Not yet, but I'm bugging my mom to learn to play the drums or guitar.
Worst crash:
When I was about 7, I fell on my wrist while I was inline skating. Then
about a year ago I went over the top of my handlebars in the street trying
to do a BMX trick. (I totaled my handlebars, bummer!).
Do you see yourself pursuing any sports either seriously or for fun in the
future?
Definitely, I would like to be a professional female athlete.
Is there one event that you have been to that was your favorite either
because of the sport, or the location, or the people you met, or whatever?
I liked the skateboarding clinic at Action Girl the best. The instructors
there taught me the most and were really cool! (and I got to meet you
there:)
Who do you look up to and in what sport?
I don't know a lot of women pro's but I like Hannah Teter and I really think
that Bethany Hamilton is AWESOME (I saw her while I was up in Mtn High for
the Queen of the Mountain event).
Do you have a favorite location to skate or snowboard?
I like to Skate in front of my house, and so far I like Mt. High for
Snowboarding. (I'm going to Mammoth in March).
Was there a special moment learning any of these sports you participat in
where you just felt a sense of accomplishment or pride in what you had
conquered?
When I was wakeboarding, I was happy when I stood up! Also when I was
skateboarding- doing my first Ollie!
Do you think girls get the coverage they deserve for doing extreme
sports?
Yes, but I think that there should be A LOT more womens sports on TV.
